Giving Thanks

November 24, 2010 - 6:05pm

Thanksgiving was celebrated in a big way, an amazing group of volunteers and community members came together to host and serve a delicious Thanksgiving feast to the 21 families calling the Ronald McDonald House, home.

Each Thanksgiving Cori and Ryan August give thanks in a special way.  Four years ago their son Jaxon was born with a giant Omphalocele (his stomach, liver, intestines and spleen were outside his body). After spending the first eight weeks of Jaxon's life and celebrating their first family Thanksgiving at the Ronald McDonald House, the August family knew they wanted to give back.

For the past two years, the August family has cooked dinner for the entire House. "I was amazed by the Ronald McDonald House" said, Cori August " and the depth of giving and community support it had, I wanted to do my part." Cori, Ryan, Jaxon and Anna August cooked the stuffing, gravy, roasted apple squash, cranberry sauce, rolls, carrots, applesauce, green bean casserole and mashed potatoes. The two turkey's and ham were cooked by the House volunteers and  April, Ryan and Lydia Lorraine generously provided the beverages and desserts.

In additiona to our profound appreciation to the August and Lorraine families we thank our volunteers: Amy Story, Bette Brook, Serena Joyce, Jane Norton, Linda Vickerson, Gail Berenson, Joanne Lafferty, Nan Stelfox, and Tenny Auger.
